Reasons Why You Should Apply for a Fertilizer Treatment During the Fall Months

In the fall, we often glance around our landscaping.  We enjoy the color changes of the leaves, the cooler night air, and our warm cups of tea.  We don’t often think of fall as one of the best seasons to garden, but if you think about it Spring is cold, there are chances for frost, and it can be equally dangerous to your plants.  Fall is often overlooked as a planting season, but it shouldn’t be!  Read on to learn more about why fall is the best time for planting.

Fall is Often Wetter than Spring

April showers may bring on May flowers, but the summer heat and sunshine often wreaks havoc on plants.  This means that when you plant a garden during the spring, you have to pay close attention to the watering of your foliage.

Fall is often the rainiest season, and provides better reliability when it comes to consistent and natural rainfall which is best for your plants.  The leaves of your bushes, ground cover, and other foliage will have plenty of opportunity to soak up much needed nutrients and water to protect then from the upcoming months of scorching sun.

Better Established Root Systems

Planting in Fall allows plants to take root in moist soil which allows those root systems to become more stable before the weather turns sour.  If you plant towards the end of summer, when the air is humid, you may have more than 6 weeks before the ground freezes up.  When it comes to planting though, this gives your plants a great opportunity to become well established, creating less stress so that they blossom sooner, longer, and more plentifully.

More Comfort For the Gardener

Do you enjoy getting out in the spring?  It is often cold, wet, and the soil is hard.  However, getting out in the fall evenings is a relaxing cool end to a warm day, meaning that there is more comfort for the gardener.  Favorable temperatures are not only better for plants, but they are also better for the planter.  To top it off, there are less pests and mosquitos in the fall, compared to spring.

Fall is Great for Vegetables

There’s nothing better than being able to grab your winter stew vegetables right out of the backyard, instead of having to warm up the car and go to the grocery store.  Planting a fall vegetable garden allows you to have plentiful crops by the time spring comes.  Don’t forget to insulate the soil with mulch for the best results.

Get Your Shrubs and Perennials Ready

Fall isn’t always a time to slow down, instead look at it as an opportunity to prepare for the coming year.  Just like fall gardens, Autumn is a perfect time of the year to prepare your shrubs and perennials for strong growth in the spring time.  Pre-seed your garden, and plant your flower bulbs, and let nature decide when the perfect time is for those plants to thrive.
